Abortion Stances

U.S. House Candidates In PA-1

Brian Fitzpatrick (Republican)

U.S. Representative and Republican. Fitzpatrick’s record on abortion is mixed but overall leans toward restricting abortion compared with many Democratic politicians. He has supported a 20-week federal abortion ban in the past and voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act (which would have broadly protected abortion rights at the federal level). At the same time, he has said abortion policy should find bipartisan compromise that respects both individual privacy and concern for unborn life, and he voted for some limited protections like the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. His ratings from abortion-rights and anti-abortion groups show he does not align fully with either extreme, but many advocacy groups classify him as more restrictive than pro-choice.

Bob Harvie (Democrat)

Democrat and Bucks County Commissioner running for Congress. There isn’t a clear, detailed public statement from Harvie specifically on abortion regulation for federal law yet. As a Democratic Party candidate, he is likely to support protecting abortion access and oppose restrictive bans, consistent with mainstream Democratic positions and local Democratic campaigning on protecting abortion rights in Bucks County. Local Democratic leaders including Harvie have participated in events framed around protecting access to abortion and reproductive health care.

Tracy Hunt (Democrat-Former Republican)

Democratic congressional candidate who switched from the Republican Party. There aren’t specific public statements about Hunt’s precise abortion position available. However, as a Democratic Party candidate running in a Democratic primary in PA’s 1st District, it’s typical for such candidates to support abortion rights and oppose major restrictions. If you want to be sure, you could check their campaign website or ask them directly about where they stand on access and limits.

Lucia Simonelli (Democrat)

Democratic congressional candidate. There’s no public record yet available online about her position on regulating abortion specifically. Because she’s running as a Democrat in a primary, the presumptive position would be supportive of abortion rights and against severe restrictions, but without a statement or voting record, we cannot say for certain. Looking at her campaign site or direct quotes would give the clearest answer.

Robert “Rob” Strickler (Democrat)

Another Democratic candidate for Congress. Like other newer or less-covered candidates, we couldn’t find a clear public position on abortion regulations. As with the other Democratic challengers, it’s typical (but not guaranteed) that he would support maintaining access to abortion and oppose strict bans. For exact details, his own messaging is the best source.

Pennsylvania Governor Race Candidates

Josh Shapiro (Democratic)

Governor of Pennsylvania and Democrat. Shapiro has supported protecting abortion rights in Pennsylvania and signed measures opposing extreme anti-abortion policies. As governor, he has publicly opposed restrictive abortion bans and backed efforts that preserve reproductive health care access within the state. (He’s widely considered pro-choice in his policies and administration.)

Stacy Garrity (Republican)

Republican candidate for Pennsylvania Governor (challenging Shapiro). Her campaign emphasizes pro-life values (common among Republican candidates), which generally means supporting policies that restrict abortion access and oppose broad abortion rights. Pennsylvania Republicans typically support limiting abortion and expanding protections for unborn life. For precise language, her campaign site would have specifics.

Bucks County Commissioners Race Candidates

Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia (Democrat)

Democrat and Bucks County Commissioner. As part of the Democratic majority on the Bucks County Board, she has spoken in support of abortion rights and participated in local rallies advocating protection of reproductive health access. Democrats on the Board have backed positions to protect choice rather than restrict it.

Robert J. “Bob” Harvie Jr. (Democrat)

Gene DiGirolamo (Republican)

Republican and Bucks County Commissioner. According to past candidate surveys from local elections, DiGirolamo has described himself as opposed to legalized abortion except in cases like rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother — a more restricted position on abortion regulation that aligns with many Republican officeholders.
